Looking for a few, or many, good volunteers

“Just remember: Noah’s Ark was built by amateurs. The Titanic was built by professionals.”

When you think of volunteers, what do you think of? Most often, it’s of people doing things like Meals on Wheels, cleaning ditches, taking care of someone’s dog while they’re on vacation, building websites (you’re reading a volunteer effort!) or the subject of this post, serving on various committees.

  • Reason to volunteer #6: If you don’t go out each day, you get old.

Yes, committees of volunteers make a lot of things happen. Some even get paid, though not in the instance I’m about to bring up. But there will be a sense of satisfaction in making a difference in the world, which is why we’re all here anyway. As groups grow, so does the need for volunteers to help them work better

  • Reason to volunteer #2: Your family could use a break from you.

CLEAN is seeking volunteers to serve on committees to help better organize events, ideas and provide advice to make for a stronger organization. You can even give direction on what we do next with defining our mission and values. Well, the mission is fairly clear, but it doesn’t hurt to have a few more ideas floating in to make it even clearer.

  • Failed volunteerism slogan #8: Volunteer, cause you’d like your resume to be at least of a page.

If you’d like to volunteer to help on a committee of some type or would like to volunteer to help us define what committees we might need, let us know at a meeting, use the contact form on the website or post about your interest on the Facebook page. Don’t be shy; you’re needed to help us be successful! If that’s not enough, here are 17 more (serious) reasons to add yourself to the volunteering world.

And if you’re wondering where those reasons for volunteering listed above came from, visit the Energize website, a resource for teaching volunteer leadership. See you at the committee meetings!
